About

We are a lively, growing, family church located in the 'West End' of Sherborne, that seeks to bring glory and honour to the name of Jesus. Our worship services are open to anyone, so why not come and join us? Don't worry if it's your first time at church; while some of our congregation have attended for years, others have only just arrived.

We don't meet together because we feel we have to – there's no religious box to be ticked! We meet because we want to. We enjoy worshipping God, and we also enjoy the friendships we build in the time we spend together. Our services tend to follow this pattern:

  • A time of sung worship to God, accompanied by musicians
  • Shortly into the service, the children will be invited to leave for their groups.
  • A message or sermon taken from the Bible.
  • Closing songs or prayers, finishing around 12:00.

After the service, tea, coffee and biscuits will be available, so please feel free to have a chat and get to know people.

The service leader or speaker will also be available if you need further information or would like someone to pray with.

"Why don't you have a church building?"

Although a building is nice to have, a church is not made from bricks and mortar – it's composed of people. Wherever we meet to worship God, that is where the church is. If you look at many growing churches today, a lot of them are moving their meetings into schools and halls, to make room for their congregation. We do own a cabin outside the West End Hall which we use for children's activities, and we hope to widen its usage in the local community.

"Are you part of a denomination?"

We are a free church, which means that we are not tied to a mainstream denomination – like the Baptist Church, Methodist Church, or Church of England. Like thousands of other churches, we are held accountable to the ethos of the Evangelical Alliance, and we also come under the banner of Rural Ministries. Please feel free to ask any questions about this that you may have, and don't forget to have a look at our Statement of Faith on this website.

"Do you have a Vicar?"

No, but we have a leadership team that fulfil similar duties. Pete Bryer, leader of the Tinney's Lane Youth Centre for over twenty years, is part of our leadership. Pete, together with the other five members of the leadership team, oversee the running of the church. They are accountable to God and the church body.
